The Nicosia District Local Government Organization currently has three Wastewater Treatment Plants in full operation to serve the residents of the District.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant located in occupied Mia Milia became operational in early 2013, has a capacity of 30 thousand (30,000) cubic meters of wastewater per day and has a tertiary treatment system using membrane technology.
The Plant was built on the site of the old Plant which was erected in the early 1970s, following a Tender launched under the UNDP umbrella.
It serves the areas of Nicosia, Ayios Dometios, Engomi, parts of the Strovolos and Aglantzia districts and part of the occupied Nicosia area.
The Anthoupoli Wastewater Treatment Plant, started its operation in 2008, has a capacity of 13 thousand cubic metres of wastewater per day and includes a tertiary treatment system using membrane technology. It serves the areas of Lakatamia, Tseri, part of the Strovolos area, Ayioi Trimithias, Paliometocho, Kokkinotrimithia and in the future it is expected to receive wastewater from communities in the south-western area of Nicosia district.
The Vathia Gonia Wastewater Treatment Plant started its operation in 2010, has a capacity of 22 thousand cubic metres of wastewater per day and includes a tertiary treatment system using membrane technology. It serves the areas of Geri, Latsia and part of the areas of Aglantzia and Strovolos, while in the future it is expected to receive wastewater from communities in the south-eastern area of Nicosia district.
The wastewater treatment plant in Astromeritis has a capacity of 1700 cubic meters per day and includes a tertiary treatment system. It serves the communities of Astromeritis, Peristerona and Akaki.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant in Lythrodondas has a capacity of 500 cubic metres per day and includes a tertiary treatment system. It serves the community of Lythrodondas.
The Nicosia District Local Governmental Organization has other, smaller capacity, tertiary treatment plants in the communities of Paleochori Orini, Kakopetria, Askas and Apliki.
